Gwen
Written by Farrah Vartanian
Gwen "Fair Gwen" Avery is one of the main characters in this book. The author, Rodman Philbrick, explains that Gwen is Kevin's mother and guardian throughout the whole book. Her husband left her after he found out that Freak had a birth defect, which makes Gwen the only parent in Freak's life. In addition, Gwen is very protective and house-warming. She is protective because when Max took Freak to his room, Gwen freaked out because she didn't know where he was (Philbrick 19-20). Even though parents would wonder where their child is if they were lost, but Freak can't defend himself so that gives the right or her to be more nervous. She is house warming because one time, she invited Grim, Gram, and Max to have dinner, and she was very welcoming and made very hearty and filling food. If she didn't care about her guests, she would't have given her hospitality to them. In all, Gwen is shown to be very protective and house-warming.
